1. Pertama-tama anda harus masuk kek situs http://id.m.yahoo.com/ via browser ponsel. Pastikan petingan browser anda sudah diatur sesuai dengan kartu SIM yang digunakan.

2. Lakukan sign in dan lanjutkan. Tentunya anda harus sudah memiliki alun pada yahoo. Bila belum, yahoo mensyaratkan anda untuk melakukan registrasi lewat PC pada alamat http://id.yahoo.com. Selanjutnya anda diminta untuk memberikan persetujuan tentang penggunaan alun tersebut pada Social Pulse. Pilih Yes/ya.

3. Untuk menambahkan situs komunitas lainnya, anda dapat memilih ‘add’. Misalnya bila ingin menambahkan flickr, pilih flickr > beri tanda silang atau klik pada kotak notifikasi.

4. Untuk menambahkan facebook, Twitter, Youtube dan lainnya pada alun socia pulse, lakukan hal yang sama seperti pada flickr. Hanya saja anda akan diminta mengisi ‘username’ dan ‘password’ yang anda gunakan. Bila proses penambahan berhasil akan tampak notifikasi apakah anda mengijinkan koneksi tersebut, pilih ‘allow’.

5. Begitu semua situs komunitas yang anda miliki dapat terhubung, selanjutnya anda ‘scroll’ layar kembali ke atas dan pilih home: atau ‘awal’. Bila alun yahoo anda teregistrasi dengan mana kota dan negara yang benar, maka secara otomatis bahasa yang digunakan akan berubah ke bahasa indonesia. Bila tida, masih tersedia opsi pilihan untuk mengubah nama kota serta bahasa yang digunakan.

6. Untuk melakukan update status, seperti halnya pada PC/komputer, klik update > ketikan kalimat yang anda ingin > posting status.

7. Berbeda dengan pengguna pada PC/komputer yang dapat melakukan update informasi secara realtime, Social pulse mengendalkan update data pada social pulse dibuka. Bila ingin melakukan update, maka anda harus melakukan ‘refresh’. Menu ‘refresh’ tersebut tersedia pada menu paling atas.

Semakin banyak akun situs komunitas yang anda masukkan maka semakin panjang tampilan yang terlihat pada layar ponsel anda. Bila daftar panjang tersebut menangkap adanya update status yang belum terlihat, pada akhir halaman layar tersedia menu ‘berikutnya’ yang dara di klik untuk membukanya.

8. Yang menarik ketika sekali anda mengupdate status, maka pada semua situs komunitas yang terdapat didalamnya secara otomatis akan melakukan update yang sama. Jadi bila anda memiliki teman yang berbeda-beda pada tiap situs komunitas, maka semua teman anda dari situs komunitas yang berbeda-beda tersebut dapat melihat update status tersebut.

Tablet computer sales to hit 208 million in 2014

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Sales of tablet computers like Apple's iPad are expected to soar from nearly 20 million units this year to 55 million next year and over 208 million in 2014, market research firm Gartner said Friday.

Gartner said North America will account for 61 percent of tablet computer sales this year but its share will drop to 43 percent in 2014.

Gartner forecast worldwide sales of tablet computers of 19.5 million units in 2010, 54.8 million units in 2011 and more than 208 million units in 2014.

Apple began selling its iPad in April and a number of other companies have announced plans to begin producing the multi-media devices, which can be used to surf the Web, read electronic books, watch video and more.

Gartner said the explosion in tablet computers will impact sales of devices in other segments including netbook computers, the small laptops also known as mini-notebooks.

"The all-in-one nature of media tablets will result in the cannibalisation of other consumer electronics devices such as e-readers, gaming devices and media players," Gartner research vice president Carolina Milanesi said.

"Mini notebooks will suffer from the strongest cannibalisation threat as media tablet average selling prices drop below 300 dollars over the next two years," Milanesi said.

FDA approves Botox to treat chronic migranes

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Food and Drug Administration on Friday approved Allergan Inc's anti-wrinkle injection Botox to treat chronic migraines.

Botox injections would be given to adult sufferers of chronic migraines around the head and neck every 12 weeks in an attempt to dull future headaches, said the FDA in a statement.

Chronic migraine sufferers have a headache on most days of the month. Botox has not been shown to work for people who suffer headaches 14 days or less per month, the FDA said.

The United Kingdom was the first country to approve the use of Botox for migraine treatment in July.

The approval comes just over a month after Allergan agreed to pay $600 million to settle a federal probe into its marketing practices for Botox.

Allergan Inc's shares rose 7 percent in after-hours trading to $73.90.

Twitter cuts off celebrity-tracker JustSpotted

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - Twitter on Friday said it cut celebrity-tracking service JustSpotted off from a pipeline of "tweets" that could be tapped to map the whereabouts of stars.

JustSpotted will launch Tuesday with an online map that pinpoints celebrity sightings in real time using updates from sources including Twitter, Facebook, and location-based check-in service FourSquare.

JustSpotted is a reincarnation of real-time search engine Scoopler, which had licensed a "fire hose" data feed of all public tweets from Twitter.

"JustSpotted.com is not the product we licensed, and we have terminated their agreement," a Twitter spokesman said in response to an AFP inquiry.

Twitter had nothing to do with the development of JustSpotted, the spokesman stressed.

The JustSpotted homepage on Friday featured a world atlas with icons marking locations where people reported sightings of famous folks ranging from movie stars to US President Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama.

A message on the page promised the service would launch in four days.

"JustSpotted shows you what your favorite celebrity is up to right now and where they were last spotted," said service founder and chief executive AJ Asver.

The service promised to deliver "a real-time feed of every celebrity's activity."

Key features listed by JustSpotted included technology that sifted public Twitter comments for celebrity sightings and comments about what they were doing.

While branded by some as a potential resource for stalkers, JustSpotted billed itself as "celebrity friendly" and said stars can make deals to use the service to promote their images or messages.

Meski Facebook bukan serach engine dan lebih fokus pada social networking dan tampilan terakhir yang tidak saya sukai, tapi aplikasi-aplikasi Facebook kini lebih luas dari bayangan saya ketika pertama kali mengunakan jejaring sosial ini. Jika anda pelaku bisnis, artis, karyawan, mahasiswa, pedagang atau pun pelaku sosial maya aktif, anda bisa masuk di situs ini dan memilih banyak aplikasi sesuai dengan kebutuhan anda, termasuk Facebook connect. Dan tentu saja game yang ada di facebook telah manarik banyak penggua untuk tetap diam di depan komputer dan berjam-jam bermain Farm Ville atau Mafia Wars.

4 Ways Google's Goo.gl URL Shortening Service Can Best the Competition

The Google URL shortening service Goo.gl, that allows you to transform long Web addresses into short easy to remember links, was opened to the public Friday. With the introduction of Goog.gl, the Internet behemoth joins the ranks of Bit.ly, TinyURL, Ow.ly, and dozens of other similar services.
Using Goo.gl new service a very long Web address is reduced to http://goog.gl/ followed by a combination of four letters and numbers. When someone types in the Goo.gl address the requested is routed through Google, which takes Web surfers to the intended site.
Google says it wants to keep its Goo.gl service lean, with an emphasis on stability, built-in spam protection, and speed. But that might not be enough to secure a spot on top of the link-shortening heap. Here are a few more features I'd like to see from Goo.gl:
Shortening Shortcuts Where They're Needed Most
Google has a lot of services that deal in hopelessly long URLs, such as search queries, Place pages and Maps results. Some people say URL shorteners are only good for Twitter social networks, but sending someone a massive URL for search-related services is just rude. If Google included small buttons to shorten these results on demand, sharing a link for directions to your house would be a lot more pleasant.
Expand Links in Chrome
One of the frustrations of shortened URLs is the inability to see where they're taking you ahead of time. There's no shortage of URL expansion plug-ins for Web browsers -- Chrome URL Expander, for instance, makes every URL appear in full -- but I'd like to see this function built directly into the Chrome browser, so when you roll over a link, there are no mysteries.
Create a "Copy" Button
This may seem really trivial, but Google should take a page from bit.ly and include a one-click way to copy shortened URLs to the clipboard. Having to select the shortened link and copy it with a contextual menu in the browser is just one extra step that makes Goo.gl less desirable.
Get Creative
Facebook does something clever with its own URL shortening service: When you type in a user name immediately after the URL, such as fb.me/PCWorld, you're taken directly to that site's Facebook page. I would love to see Goo.gl become a shortcut to services (imagine Goo.gl/m taking you to maps) or even searches (taking you directly to the results when inserting query immediately after the URL).

Giant penguins with no tux? Fossil feathers say so

WASHINGTON – Some ancient penguins may have been twice as big as today's Emperor penguin but they lacked the dashing tuxedo. Researchers unearthed remains of a nearly 5-foot-tall penguin that roamed what is now Peru about 36 million years ago, and they also discovered fossilized feathers that show back then, the flightless bird was a more motley mix of reddish-brown and gray.
Thursday's report in the journal Science is more than a curiosity about color. Analyzing the fossil led to a new discovery about modern penguins, which in turn raises questions about how their feathers evolved to help them become such expert swimmers.
It's one of the largest penguins that ever lived, estimated to have been twice as heavy as the average Emperor penguin of today. The second species of giant penguin discovered in Peru, it was given the name Inkayacu paracasensis, or Water King, part of a cluster of now-extinct penguin species that apparently ranged over much of the Southern Hemisphere.
A stroke of luck helped paleontologists find the feathers. A student on the dig team, from the Museo de Historia Natural in Lima, discovered the fossil's foot and noticed it had scales, evidence of soft tissue that's rarely preserved. Maybe there was more soft tissue, and if so, they'd have to excavate extra carefully.
"We got incredibly excited," said paleontologist Julia Clarke of the University of Texas at Austin, who led the team. "Moving really slowly, flake by flake by flake through this giant block," they eventually uncovered a flipper with layers of small feathers and under it, fossilized body feathers, too.

On the surface, they're shaped like the feathers of modern penguins. Popsicle-shaped wing feathers were densely stacked on top of each other to create a stiffened flipper, Clarke said.
When they looked more deeply, the feathers were far different. The outer shape apparently evolved before some microscopic changes that may play a role in penguin's underwater prowess.
Pigment is long gone in fossils. But left behind in feathers can be microscopic packets called melanosomes that in life contained color-producing pigments — and the shape of those melanosomes corresponds to different colors. So the researchers compared a library of melanosomes from living birds with these fossilized ones.
The big surprise is that it turns out modern penguins have large melanosomes packed into grape-like clusters, unlike those of any other known bird, while the extinct giant penguin's smaller melanosomes resembled those of other birds, Clarke said.
The scientists can't explain the difference. But they say it probably has to do with more than the black tuxedo coloration of today's penguins.
Melanin, the pigment inside melanosomes, helps feathers resist breakage. So one possibility is that the melanosomes got bigger during later penguin evolution as the birds became better underwater swimmers and needed a more hydrodynamic covering. Clarke is anxious to get back to Peru and see if more fossil finds will help tell.

Could 'Goldilocks' planet be just right for life?

WASHINGTON – Astronomers say they have for the first time spotted a planet beyond our own in what is sometimes called the Goldilocks zone for life: Not too hot, not too cold. Juuuust right.

Not too far from its star, not too close. So it could contain liquid water. The planet itself is neither too big nor too small for the proper surface, gravity and atmosphere.
It's just right. Just like Earth.
"This really is the first Goldilocks planet," said co-discoverer R. Paul Butler of the Carnegie Institution of Washington.
The new planet sits smack in the middle of what astronomers refer to as the habitable zone, unlike any of the nearly 500 other planets astronomers have found outside our solar system. And it is in our galactic neighborhood, suggesting that plenty of Earth-like planets circle other stars.
Finding a planet that could potentially support life is a major step toward answering the timeless question: Are we alone?
Scientists have jumped the gun before on proclaiming that planets outside our solar system were habitable only to have them turn out to be not quite so conducive to life. But this one is so clearly in the right zone that five outside astronomers told The Associated Press it seems to be the real thing.
"This is the first one I'm truly excited about," said Penn State University's Jim Kasting. He said this planet is a "pretty prime candidate" for harboring life.
Life on other planets doesn't mean E.T. Even a simple single-cell bacteria or the equivalent of shower mold would shake perceptions about the uniqueness of life on Earth.
But there are still many unanswered questions about this strange planet. It is about three times the mass of Earth, slightly larger in width and much closer to its star — 14 million miles away versus 93 million. It's so close to its version of the sun that it orbits every 37 days. And it doesn't rotate much, so one side is almost always bright, the other dark.
Temperatures can be as hot as 160 degrees or as frigid as 25 degrees below zero, but in between — in the land of constant sunrise — it would be "shirt-sleeve weather," said co-discoverer Steven Vogt of the University of California at Santa Cruz.
It's unknown whether water actually exists on the planet, and what kind of atmosphere it has. But because conditions are ideal for liquid water, and because there always seems to be life on Earth where there is water, Vogt believes "that chances for life on this planet are 100 percent."
The astronomers' findings are being published in Astrophysical Journal and were announced by the National Science Foundation on Wednesday.
The planet circles a star called Gliese 581. It's about 120 trillion miles away, so it would take several generations for a spaceship to get there. It may seem like a long distance, but in the scheme of the vast universe, this planet is "like right in our face, right next door to us," Vogt said in an interview.
That close proximity and the way it was found so early in astronomers' search for habitable planets hints to scientists that planets like Earth are probably not that rare.
Vogt and Butler ran some calculations, with giant fudge factors built in, and figured that as much as one out of five to 10 stars in the universe have planets that are Earth-sized and in the habitable zone.
With an estimated 200 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy, that means maybe 40 billion planets that have the potential for life, Vogt said. However, Ohio State University's Scott Gaudi cautioned that is too speculative about how common these planets are.
Vogt and Butler used ground-based telescopes to track the star's precise movements over 11 years and watch for wobbles that indicate planets are circling it. The newly discovered planet is actually the sixth found circling Gliese 581. Two looked promising for habitability for a while, another turned out to be too hot and the fifth is likely too cold. This sixth one bracketed right in the sweet spot in between, Vogt said.
With the star designated "a," its sixth planet is called Gliese 581g.
"It's not a very interesting name and it's a beautiful planet," Vogt said. Unofficially, he's named it after his wife: "I call it Zarmina's World."
The star Gliese 581 is a dwarf, about one-third the strength of our sun. Because of that, it can't be seen without a telescope from Earth, although it is in the Libra constellation, Vogt said.
But if you were standing on this new planet, you could easily see our sun, Butler said.
The low-energy dwarf star will live on for billions of years, much longer than our sun, he said. And that just increases the likelihood of life developing on the planet, the discoverers said.
"It's pretty hard to stop life once you give it the right conditions," Vogt said.
